Type B Girder Clamp

Standard girder clamp, with flat top, used to quickly connect steel beams with parallel / flat flanges and resist moderate tensile loading.

Overview

The Type B girder clamp is used to achieve a fast connection between two steel beams and is often used in a pair with Type A clamps. It has a flat top to allow the bolt head or nut to rotate on a hardened washer and can also be used with studs, tie rods or J-bolts. The skirt on the underside of the clamp abuts the edge of the beam flange and prevents the clamp rotating during installation. Type B girder clamps can also be used on their own if one piece of the steel has been pre-drilled.

Features & Benefits

  • Flat top allows the bolt head or nut to rotate on a hardened washer.
  • Independently evaluated for fatigue resistance per EN 1993-1-9. Contact us for details.
  • Ideal for parallel flanges.
  • Suitable up to 17,720lbs tensile load in a four-bolt configuration.
  • Independently approved for dynamic load applications to EN 1993-1-9. Contact us for details.

Tail Lengths & Packing Pieces

The clamp is available in three tail lengths, Short, Medium and Long and can be used with Lindapter packing pieces to increase the clamping range. Choose the correct combination of tail length and packing pieces to suit a specific flange thickness. Download datasheet for selection table.

Location & End Plates

Location plates are required when securing two sections together with clamps attached to the upper and lower sections with both clamps directly opposing each other. The plate is positioned between the two sections to hold the bolts at the correct centers and should be fabricated to the dimensions shown in the datasheet.

End Plates should be used when clamps are attached to the supporting section only. The End Plate holds the bolts at the correct centers and should be fabricated to the dimensions shown in the datasheet.

Properties

  • Manufactured from malleable iron to BS EN 1562.
  • Available with zinc plated or hot dip galvanized finish.
  • Reaction to fire: A1 (Steel)
