Tower Bridge's New Walkways

Sectors: Civil, Structural
Applications: Securing glass walkways to the iconic steel structure

Summary: Contractors used Lindapter Type A clamps to attach the new glass walkways supporting steel frame to the original steelwork.

The new viewing platform of the iconic bridge spans the River Thames at a height of 42 metres and features a glass floor to reveal the bridge deck and water below.
The floor consists of several glass panels, each weighing 530kg, supported by a carbon steel framework weighing 1,000kg. The frame was safely secured to the original steel lattice structure with Lindapter’s CE marked clamps, allowing the contractors to complete the installation within six weeks.
Lindapter’s connection solution avoided drilling and welding, meaning there was less work at height and no need for on-site closures. This simplified the process and ensured the iconic structure was not damaged.
