Royal Opera House

Sectors: Civil, Building Services
Applications: Building Services and Secondary Steelwork

Summary: Lindapter steelwork and support fixings were used extensively throughout the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London, in a £135m refurbishment project.

The Grade 1 listed structure was modernised to provide up to date facilities for the Royal Opera and Royal Ballet companies. Lindapter fixings secured services and secondary steelwork around the entire complex, including the 140 year old auditorium, fly tower, studio theatre, rehearsal rooms, set building areas, offices and entrance foyer.

Lindapter’s Alphawedge proved significantly beneficial to the project, connecting electrical and mechanical services to the steel floor decking whilst offering the flexibility of lateral adjustability along decking channels. This enabled the convenient installation of hundreds of kilometres of cabling required to distribute power, sound and light throughout the development. Other applications include the support of multi-compartment trunking, that encircles the auditorium balconies to enable special effects equipment and lighting to be connected in any required position and securing a new air conditioning system to cool the main auditorium.

The Alphawedge is designed to lock quickly and securely into the re-entrant channel of Richard Lees Steel Decking Ltd’s Ribdeck AL composite decking, to enable suspension of services using threaded rod without the need to shotfire or drill.
